Take a sneak peek into the days of August at  BRA.

BRA celebrates Independence Day!

The 72nd Independence day was celebrated with patriotic fervor and enthusiasm by students of JPM School, vocational trainees of BRA and students of Durgabai Deshmukh college on the eve of Independence day on 14th August, 2018. The programme began with the ritualistic unfurling of the Indian tricolor by the Chief Guest Dr. Sonal Mansingh, the iconic classical Indian dancer and Hon’ble MP, RajyaSabha followed by JHANDA GEET, in praise of the national flag, which ws rendered enmass by the students with band in accompaniment

Post unfurling of the national flag, the cultural programme commenced with presentation of a potted plant to the Chief Guest followed by rendition of the national song “Vande Mataram” written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. An articulate recitation of a poem, extolling the nation in its myriad facets by Kartik Bansal kept the audience spell bound. The feelings kindled by the poem amongst the audience was reciprocated by the Chief Guest in her speech. While lauding the performances of the students, she encouraged that the students may be provided a platform to showcase their talent beyond the boundaries of the school. Her appreciation boosted the morale of the students.

In keeping with the spirit of the occasion there were other performances as well by the students of JPM School, Durgabai Deshmukh College and by the vocational trainees. Patriotic group songs in Hindi and English were sung by students of JPM School and an action song enacted by the vocational trainees of BRA, choreographed by volunteers of National School of Drama, depicting the sacrifices by our freedom fighter. Behind each performance by our students and trainees, was dedicated practice, rigorous effort and zeal.

On 15th August again the ceremonious unfurling of the national flag in the presence of all the hostellers of the BRA. Later in the evening the famous TARANNUM and Indian Music Choir a highly melodious and inspiring programme of patriotic songs as well as popular numbers associated rainy season, in the Association’s Gandhi Centenary Memorial Hall. The choir, led by Ravi Raj Sagar a theater person and music enthusiast, comprises men and women from different walks whose common passion is music as members. Each and evey item presented received thuderous applause.

A many-hued day at BRA’s vocational training center

The trainees waited in anticipation as they quietly sat in BRA’s vocational training center. The anticipation quickly escalated to enthusiasm when they were distributed with colorful clay. They felt, rolled, shaped and molded the clay into several miniatures as their creative minds led them. Apart from baskets, pots, bouquets, a tiny jungle came into being with elephants, tortoises, snakes, and fishes.

Well, that was only the trial round at the art workshop conducted on 29 August, 2018 by Siddhant Shah from Mumbai, supported by Delhi Art Gallery (DAG). 25 visually challenged trainees undergoing the multi skill training program at BRA attended and benefitted through the one day workshop and ended up surprising

everyone with their skills in clay modelling and block printing.

Divided into two groups, the trainees learnt to make floral patterns out of clay and paint using blocks, ropes, and leaves. Afroz Khan, one of the trainees who attended the workshop shared his experience saying, “I really enjoyed what I learned today, if given a chance I would want to do it again.” The imaginative and artistic minds knew no bounds and the day ended with some eye-catching exhibits.

“This is only a pilot workshop to identify the skills. Once we are able to spot the interested trainees in each activity, we want to work closely with them, and see how we can develop their skills according to their interests,” said Siddhant Shah after the workshop
