No, not a goodbye                                                                                      6 Apr, 2019

A relationship of 54 years with the Blind Relief Association – when days roll by and one attains superannuation is it right to call it retirement?

Associated with B.R.A. since 1965, as boy of just eight joining in the Industrial Home for the Blind in Badarpur, Rajkumar chose to stay with us for the rest of his life. First as a student of JPM Senior Secondary School, then as a trainee in the vocational training, later as a staff of the Blind Relief Association for 40 years!

Sri Rajkumar, a visually challenged candle-making unit employee was given a warm farewell on the afternoon of 6 April 2019. He was garlanded and and presented a silver salver as a memento. Units of the Blind Relief Association also presented gifts at the farewell.

"Hero of the candle-making unit", "Best spokesperson to the media"," Multi-skilled person", “Patient trainer for young trainees”, " Never says no", "Brilliant singer" were the common phrases heard from Sri K. C. Pande, Hony. Executive Secretary; Sri David, Dy. Executive Secretary (Operations) Sri Ramashankar Asst. Supervisor (candle-making) as they shared their experience in working with Sri Rajkumar.

"Whatever I learnt, I learnt from B.R.A" were the words of Sri Rajkumar as he thanked the Association for the support so far and for the support that he can lean on even as he is retiring. The "Brilliant Singer" who often performs in public even sang for his colleagues and friends before he could leave.

Visit of the Ambassador of Japan                                                      12 Apr, 2019

Nothing delights a learner, not even an achievement than an opportunity to learn more.

The Sawaru Nihongo Group of visually impaired students studying Japanese language in the Blind Relief Association was overjoyed when the Ambassador of Japan, H.E.Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu along with his spouse Mrs. Patricia Hiramatsu, visited B.R.A to present study materials of Japanese in Braille.

While sources in Japanese language are available to the students, fetching materials in Braille has remained a challenge. On their visit to the Association on 12 April, the Ambassador and his wife gave away to the students a set of Minna No Nihongo containing graded lessons in Braille.

The students interacted with the Ambassador on their passion for the language and culture of Japan and

their visit to Japan in 2016 through a Cultural Exchange Programme. Listening to the students speak in Japanese, the Ambassador said, “I am greatly impressed by the interest I see here, you speak very well. I hope to visit again and help in ways possible.” Mrs. Itsuko Nandi, professionally trained Japanese volunteer and veteran who has been connected with the Blind Relief Association along with six students was present at the discussion.

The Ambassador and his wife also observed the various programmes run by the Association. This visit from the Embassy of Japan follows the visit of the wife of the Foreign Minister of Japan, Mrs. Kaori Kono on 8 January 2019, when she promised to send these Braille books for the students. For Mrs. Patricia Hiramatsu, this was the third visit to B.R.A. Hony. General Secretary Mrs. Benu Nath and Hony. Joint Secretary Mrs. Radhika Bharat Ram were also present at the occasion.
