Mega Job Fair                                                                                          12 Mar, 2019

Over 700 job aspirants, with big dreams hailing from a dozen states across the country came to the Job Fair hosted by the Blind Relief Association jointly with the Department of Social Work, University of Delhi and Society for Human Welfare and Empowerment (SHWE) with Youth4Jobs as technical associate.

A mega job fair for persons with different disabilities was organized on 12 March, 2019 from 10:00 AM – 05:00 PM at the premises of the Blind Relief Association.

19 corporates including Wipro, Lemon Tree, IBM and many others were among the recruiters. The 700 aspirants comprised freshers and experienced candidates of different disabilities. 90 of the aspirants found placements and 44 have been called for the second round of interviews in the respective offices.

The Job Fair was inaugurated by Prof. Neera Agnimitra, HoD of the Department of Social Work, University of Delhi by lighting the lamp. Mr. Rajan Sehgal, Chairman cum Managing Director of National Handicapped Finance & Development Corporation (NHFDC) visited the Job Fair and interacted with the recruiters and candidates.


50+ students from Department of Social Work of Delhi University, Ambedkar University, Aditi Mahavidhyalaya College

and Durgabai Deskmukh College of Special Education volunteered in assisting the candidates throughout the day. There were also sign language interpreters from Noida Deaf Society to assist the hearing and speech impaired.

Unlike the previous job fairs held for persons with different disabilities, a notable change in this Job fair has been the high participation and recruitment of persons with visual impairment. With the Blind Relief Association itself working in educating, training and rehabilitating the visually impaired, this move has affirmed the fact of growing acceptability and inclusion in the society and work spaces.

Prominent institutions working in the field of disability namely National Skill Development Council, National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation, and Vocational Rehabilitation Centre, At Par (Alliance to Promote Abilities & Rehabilitation), B-Able participated and provided information on their services for the disabled.

The organizing team of the Job Fair included Mr. Abhishek Thakur, Department of Social Work, University of Delhi; Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Society for Human Welfare and Empowerment; Mr. Sanjeevi, National Association for the Blind, Delhi; and Mr. David, The Blind Relief Association, Delhi.

The world has been getting tech-savvy day by day and how beneficial it is when it can be the ‘eye’ for the visually impaired.
Mr. Hassan Ali from Orel Corporation, Srilanka accompanied by his colleague in India, Mr. Binodh were at the Blind Relief Association on March 1, 2019

to sensitize the trainees by demonstrating the use of Orcam MyEye 2. This device developed by Israeli technology, which can be magnetically fixed to spectacles is capable of reading the gender of people, printed and handwritten text, and voice the time and date.

Orcam MyEye 2 which comes at a cost of Rs.3.5 lakhs is currently unaffordable by many in India, though it has seen big sales in the U.S.A and U.K.

Energy Champion                                                                                      5 Mar, 2019

11,000 participants and 15 prize winners. Ankit Singh made us proud by being one among them.

Ankit Singh of Class VIII in JPM Senior Secondary School won the consolation prize in the Bijli Bachao Star Banjao contest initiated by TATA Powers DDL.In September 2018, TATA Powers launched an energy conservation awareness campaign inviting school

students to share ideas of conserving energy through video entries in the form of poem, song or dance. While 11, 000 entries poured in from India, Dubai and Australia 5 were chosen as winners and 10 as consolation prize winners.

The CEO of TATA Powers DDL, Mr. Sanjay Banga awarded the cash prizes to the children at the corporate office near Hudson Lines on 5 March, 2019.

NMDFC's gifts to B.R.A                                                                           5 Mar, 2019

A red carpet was rolled on 5 March at the Blind Relief Association and this time it was for Shri Sailesh IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs.

Shri Sailesh visited the Blind Relief Association to dedicate the refurbished computer training centre with 10 new systems, roti making and dough kneading machines for the kitchen and school uniforms to the JPM school students contributed by the National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) under its CSR programme. It’s Chairman-cum-Managing Director Md Shahbaz Ali, Hony. General Secretary of the Blind Relief Association Smt Benu Nath were among others present at the occasion.

Norwegian Visitors                                                                                  7 Mar, 2019

Biking has been a passion for many. Biking for peace, has been the passion for few visitors of the Blind Relief Association.Tore Naerland, the leader of Bike for Peace, a Norwegian based organisation along with nine of his

associates stood engrossed watching the visually impaired boys play cricket. Being on a three-day visit to India, the group chose to visit B.R.A and share their joy by interacting with the kids. With fascination for every little act of the boys, they will be taking back to Norway more than they expected.

Naerland, a partially visioned person himself, has been touring countries in promoting peace and understanding grassroot concerns.

A visit to Microsoft                                                                                   8 Mar, 2019

Technology makes a difference, yet technology can make a greater difference with the visually impaired - in their education, profession and lifestyle.

And technology poured as rain on the team of 21 comprising the management, teachers and staff of the Blind Relief Association when they visited the Microsoft India at Gurgaon on 8 March 2019.

By getting to know the educational tools resources developed by Microsoft Education it was an eye opening day for the team.

Robin Raina visits B.R.A                                                                      19 Mar, 2019

Giving is something you will be able to take with you wherever you go for the rest of your life - Robin Raina.

Mr. Robin Raina, the founder of Robin Raina Foundation that has been supporting the outgoing students of JPM Senior Secondary School in the Blind Relief Association visited and interacted with the boys on 19 March.

Associated with the Blind Relief since 2003, Mr. Raina has been supporting the college education of around 60 students every year. The boys were greatly encouraged on meeting and interacting with him. 

Small step yet a giant leap!                                                              26 Mar, 2019

JPM Senior Secondary School was more than just a school to the 17 students of Class XII. With wishes and love for the future, they were given a warm farewell today at the Gandhi Hall.The Blind Relief Association was home to them, a home they will always come back to. To find the corridors they tirelessly walked shoulder to shoulder with their companions. To find their benches where they learnt Braille. To meet their teachers who are now livelong mentors and to catch up with friends, for which no barriers exist.

At the farewell, white canes fabricated in BRA’s workshop were gifted to each by Shri K C Pande, Hony. Executive Secretary. The students also received assorted material in Braille such as poems, stories and an article on the beginning of the BRA. Sri Pande along with Shri K J Kuriyan, School Principal and; Shri Keshav Kumar, Vice - Principal spoke words of encouragement and assured them of the Association's support even as they step out to colleges.

 

A day of victory for the JPM boys                                                    30 Mar, 2019

Joy may come on getting to know your exam results. But for the JPM boys there was greater joy in cheering and clapping for their friends who topped the class.

It was a big day for the students of JPM Senior Secondary School as they got their final exam results. Besides the students appearing for Class X and Class XII board exams, all 170 students got through the examination leading to a 100 % pass percentage in the school.

Combined with a Parents - Teachers Meeting, the results of the students were announced with a mention of the three toppers in each class. The new academic year begins on 1 April, 2019. 

The Association would like to thank Mr. Stephen Screech, Ms. Bhavya Thakur for their volunteering services rendered this month.
