New Beginnings with 3D Printers
An innovative technology that can make the education of the visually impaired more fun and interesting made its way to the Blind Relief Association through Dr. S. R. Pandian from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design, and Manufacturing (IIITDM), Kancheepuram.
The Professor accompanied by two project engineers, Mr. Jacob Raj and Mr. Vignesh introduced 3D printers and CNC geometry teaching machines in the two-day workshop held at B.R.A on 11th and 12th February, 2019. 54 participants comprising teachers of JPM Senior Secondary School, trainees and staff of Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education and Computer Training, and staff of Youth4Jobs took part in the workshop.
In addition they were also exposed to Arduino and Raspberry Pi, mobile robots, CNC mills, plastic models and puzzles. On the second day of training, the participants also got hands-on training on designing 3D models through Solid Works, a computer-aided modelling software.
The team also gifted a 3D printer to the Blind Relief Association for future learning and use.
