Sulekha’s journey from Indara to Microsoft
Hailing from Indara in Uttar Pradesh, Sulekha Rajbhar is a 24 year old young girl whose fascination for computers has brought her to Microsoft today.
Born in an economically poor and large family of 7 members, Sulekha wasn’t sure if her dreams would come true. Her father works as a labourer and the mother is a housewife. With an elder brother and sister and a younger brother and sister, Sulekha stands in the middle of the family as the only blind child.
Given the fact that Sulekha’s parents were not educated and were not aware of how to handle a child born with blindness, everything seemed to be at a standstill before Sulekha’s daadi could step in. Her daadi was working in a Christian Mission School and seeked help from the school for the girl’s education. Though the school agreed to support, the villagers were in opposed the idea of taking help from a Christian School fearing and threatening the parents that the girl might be forcefully converted.
It was a time when the parents had to decide, to either give in to the opinion of the villagers or stand for their child’s education no matter what. Knowing it was a steep road, the parents agreed to step in and take the risk to give a bright future to their daughter.
Sulekha later went on to finish her schooling from Jeevan Jyoti School for the Blind, Varnasi and graduated in B.A Programme from Janaki Devi Memorial College. In 2018, he gained her one-year Diploma in Computer Education (V.I) recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) from the Blind Relief Association, Delhi. While pursuing her college graduation, Sulekha also simultaneously completed her 3-months computer training programme from All India Confederation for the Blind. With some knowledge on screen reading software, Microsoft programmes and internet, Sulekha went on to learn and experience much more at the one-year diploma programme. Now she can effortlessly use MS access, Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, HTML, Internet, Daisy Reader and other screen reading softwares. Thanks to the Christian Mission School for supporting her education throughout and making her the only child in the family to earn a college degree.
Sulekha has a deep interest in exploring new and trending features on the internet, computer, and mobile applications. With her appointment with the Microsoft Gurgaon, Sulekha is excited to see herself in the perfect place to quench her thirst for the knowledge of computers.
