Elected Trustee, Hony. Treasurer and Chairman of the Diwali Bazar Committee, Sri Shiv Kumar Misra has been a member of the Managing Committee of the Blind Relief Association for the last 35 years. Additionally, he is a member and Hony. Treasurer of the governing body of Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education.
In his school days, S.K. Misra was an active cadet in the All India Boys Scouts Association and later became its State Secretary. He was instrumental in introducing scouting in JPM School and sending scout-volunteers to the Diwali Bazar of the Association.
Graduating from Hindu College, Shiv Kumar Misra received his Masters’ in Political Science, Delhi University followed by a degree in LLB from Law Faculty. He then joined Delhi School of Economics that was conducting a socio-economic survey of Greater Delhi. Subsequently, he joined the Town Planning Organisation (TPO) set up by the government in collaboration with Ford Foundation to prepare a 20-year Master Plan for Greater Delhi (1960-1980). After its completion, he joined Hoechst India Ltd., the largest Pharmaceutical Company in the world. Being the Resident Director, he represented the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry as a member of the delegation sent by the government to Russia to explore export markets. He was also on the Board of Directors of Hoechst, Afghanistan.
His other interests include philately and vocal music. In sports, he was awarded Best Player in Cricket at Ramjas College, Delhi and also served as the captain of Badminton in Law Faculty winning for it the Team Championship Trophy.
His identity with the Association is closely linked with his family: his eldest brother Vyas Dev Misra was not only the Legal Advisor of Mr. Basurkar, founder of the Association right from the inception of the Blind School in Badarpur but later was also the Vice President of the Managing Committee. He was Judge of the Delhi High Court and Chief Justice of Himachal State, High Court. Prof. Vishwa Mitra Misra, his brother, Head of the Physics department and Vice Principal of Hindu College Delhi, was a member of the Managing Committee of the JPM Senior Secondary School. His other brother, Om Prakash Misra was a member of the Association and the Secretary of the Social Development Council established by Smt. Durgabai Deshmukh.
