Platinum Jubilee Function
14 December 2019 was a much awaited day and now on will be one of the most remembered day in the history of the Blind Relief Association.
At the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the Association, Child rights activist and Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi ji was the chief guest of the occasion.
Welcoming the Chief Guest, President of the Association Sri Arun Bharat Ram expressed gratitude to Satyarthi ji for gracing the function and joining the BRA family in celebrating the 75 year long journey of helping visually challenged children and adults empower themselves through education and skills.
In his impassioned and inspiring speech Satyarthi ji quoting the Rigveda mantra संगच्छध्वं संवदध्वं , appealed for compassion, harmony and sensitivity in the society where all speak in one voice for the good of all, especially the children, where they are not allowed to be marginalized or exploited. The words of the Noble laureate made a deep impact on the large audience gathered on the occasion.
For the Association it was a very special occasion to honour its students and alumni for their outstanding achievements, as well as express gratitude and appreciation to the supporters, volunteers and individuals who have been associated for long and have played significant role in the development and growth of the Association.
Yet another highlight of the function was the release of “Simhavalokana” a photo album recording the history and growth of the Blind Relief Association over the last 75 years. The album contains rare photographs and such documents of 1940s and 50s such as the first student register, the first audited accounts from 1940s and 50s, the activities of Industrial Home and School for the Blind at Badarpur, the founders Sri. Umesh and Smt. Anusuya Basrurker, distinguished visitors such as Dr.Rajendra Prasad, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Vinoba Bhave, Commander in Chief K.M. Cariappa.
A short film made on the 75 year journey of the Association was also screened. For the JPM School it was a proud moment of the release of the 2018-19 year issue of School Magazine “Anubhuti”, in print, Braille as well as audio formats.
In expressing their joy and gratitude to the Association, the ex-students presented Amazon Alexa for the use of present students and trainees.
Earlier Kailash Satyarthi ji accompanied by his wife Sumedha ji went round and witnessed the teachers training, computer and vocational training activities and interacted with the trainees.
