David Absalom, Executive Secretary of the Blind Relief Association, Delhi, has dedicated over three decades to empowering persons with visual impairment. Trained in Mechanical Engineering, he joined the Association in 1994 as a Placement Officer and helped over 475 visually impaired individuals secure open employment.
Promoted to Project Officer in 2005, he launched key vocational programmes such as Massage Therapy, Call Centre Training, and Multi-Skill Training. As Dy. Executive Secretary (Operations) from 2016, he introduced electric sewing machine training and continues to expand opportunities. In 2025, he was appointed Executive Secretary.
David also holds a Master Trainer certification from SCPwD and two master’s degrees—in Social Work and Psychology. He received the Louis Braille Karma Yogi Samman (2022) from Drishti for his contributions, among several other honors.
A pioneer in blind sports, he introduced Five-a-side football in India, led national tournaments, and became the first Indian blind football coach to travel overseas. As Hony. General Secretary of IBSA since 2016, he has promoted Goalball, Lawn Tennis, and represented India internationally.
