Remembering the Founders

Remembering the Founders

June 4, 2019 Posted by Saikat Events

Long forgotten are the riches left behind

Strong remains the services rendered kind

In memory of the Founders of the Blind Relief Association, Shri Umesh Basrurker and Smt Anusuyabai Basrurker, a havan was held in the Gandhi hall this morning on the death anniversary of Smt. Basrurker.

Remembering the selfless and generous hearts, the trainees and staff of the Association participated in the havan hoping to fulfill the Founders’ dream for them.

As recorded by Mrs.Tara Bai, one of the founding members of B.R.A associated with Mrs. Basrurker since the inception of this dream,

“In 1942, when a blind man came to Mrs. Basrurker’s doors asking for financial help, long after immediate help was given this man and his helplessness remained in her mind as she kept thinking of ways and means to help, not just one such man but many others like him.

Mr. & Mrs. Basrurker along with some like-minded friends, discussed the problem of the blind in India and with the aim of complete rehabilitation – psychological, physical and economic, founded the Blind Relief Association on February 26, 1944.”

Mrs. Basrurker fell a victim to a fatal disease and died on 4 June, 1958.
