Sushma’s climb up the ladder of success

Sushma’s climb up the ladder of success

October 8, 2021 Posted by Blind Relief Admin Blog, Computer Education Success

Sushma Kumari is a 30-year-old woman with the dream of living life on her own choices and not on the opinion of others. Education and IT training landed her at Microsoft recently.

Born to a middle-class and large family of seven members, very early on in life Sushma discovered her interest in education. With two older sisters and brothers, Sushma was the only visually impaired child in the family. Yet, her ‘disability’ never really shook her faith in self. Her parents failed to understand her passion and insisted she quit studying. Yet, she kept persuading and brought them to recognize the importance of education, especially for someone like her who was always made to feel being dependent on others.

Completing her schooling at Bal Mandir Sr. Secondary School, Delhi and graduating in Political Science from the University of Delhi, Sushma went on to complete her Masters from IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University).

Sushma learnt about the six-month Basic Computer and Office Operations Course at the Blind Relief Association and enrolled for the course without anybody’s help. The course helped her develop command over various computer applications such as MS Access, Word, Excel, and internet, etc. After completing the course in December 2020, the with the Association’s assistance she presented her candidature for job in Microsoft.  After an intensive interview Sushma was offered a position in the Microsoft Office-Noida for a mailroom job.

Undeterred by many people pointing out her visual impairment being a handicap making her an incomplete person, Sushma remained steadfast in her desire of achieving something respectable in her life. For someone who was forced to question herself and her capabilities, this job has instilled greater confidence in her to prepare for new challenges. Sushma always wanted to teach in a university, a dream still alive that she wishes to moving towards that in small but consistent steps. In her quest for education she plans to do pursue Bachelors in Science.

Sushma never accepts to being restricted in the boundaries that others for her. It is her ardent desire to shine despite what life throws at her.
